Safety First.
Check all safety equipment. Be sure to take a periodic inventory of all safety equipment to make sure you have everything needed and that each piece is in good working order. Some examples of sports safety equipment include shin pads, kneepads, helmets, etc. For more information on safety gear recommended for your particular sport, visit www.safekids.org.
Remember to keep players hydrated. Kids can lose quite a bit of fluid and electrolytes while playing hard in the heat, so make sure that you provide plenty of sports drinks during practices and games.
Don’t forget the sunblock. Each child should apply a sunblock with an SPF of 15 or higher before participating in practice or a game and every two hours after that. Reapplication is especially important for water polo and swimming teams.
Update your first-aid kits. Make sure that your kit contains all the materials that you may need (tape, bandages, etc.) and replace them as they are used.
